And here she is: the new big sister of the successful S 375 G profile grinding machine by Samputensili officially introduced for the first time at EMO 2007. The new successor to the throne features an array of innovations and establishes at the same time the new base for all machines of the horizontal G series.
The electro-welded and coolant-flooded steel structure has been improved with a new chip evacuation system, avoiding even the most resisting chip nests and guaranteeing a thermally stabile and vibration-damped machine. The work range of the new machine series has been raised to 400 mm in workpiece diameter, the X-axis travel to 330 mm and the Y-axis to 650 mm. Optionally the machine is now available as an X-version with an extended Y-axis travel of up to 900 mm. The standard grinding spindle power has been raised to 20 kW, almost doubling the prior solution.
Based on these improvements the existing range of models for the gear and internal gear manufacturing as well as worm and screw grinding has been joined by a new variant which – for its particular application range - even supersedes the updated models regarding speed and efficiency. The S 380 GP is fitted with an additional CNC axis which allows to work with two separate spindles instead of just one. Both spindles can be equipped with one grinding wheel or sets of 2 wheels each.
Single gearings are roughed on the first spindle and finish ground on the second spindle with one grinding wheel on each spindle. Two gearings on one shaft can be roughed and finished with wheel sets on each spindle avoiding tool or format changes. Generally 2 different drive variants are available with different power output and speeds for different sizes of grinding wheels. Further spindle options depend on the external diameter and width of the required grinding wheels making the machine even more flexible.
Internal gears can be manufactured based on the twin drive principle without spindle change as well. When roughing and finishing internal gears the new twin spindle for internals makes grinding wheel changes for the roughing and finishing operation unnecessary. Customers can even use existing grinding spindles of the S 375 G saving investment cost. Further internal spindle variants for different grinding wheel diameters are available on request.
Format changes are now considerably faster executed than before: the change time between spindles is as low as 15 minutes until the machine is ready to be launched again. This is true for changes between external and internal grinding spindles as well, since simple adapter interfaces can be connected fast and easily by the machine operator.
Regarding tool technology you are free to decide today on CBN or corundum wheels while still being prepared for tomorrows tool developments: The S 380 GP employs electroplated CBN or dressable corundum grinding wheels depending on the workpiece requirements, delivery time and lot size to be manufactured. For dressable tools the machine is equipped with a dressing unit for the use of diamond-plated dressing rolls.
Both spindles are supported by separate coolant nozzles which can be adjusted regarding coolant output and pressure allowing the optimum use of coolant at the required interaction point between tool and workpiece without wasting energy and resources.
The automatically actuated measuring unit controls pitch, helix angle and flank line – supported by a cable free on-board sensor. An automatically retractable centering unit as well as the easy and intuitive operation via the Samputensili menu-guided operator interface are part of the comprehensive standard equipment.
You can meet the new S 380 GP at the EMO in Hanover – we are looking forward to your visit!
